Washington Monument vandalized with pink paint

(CNN) — United States Park Police say the Washington Monument is quickly closed and a person is in custody for allegedly vandalizing the monument with paint on the night of Tuesday, September 20.

The person splashed pink paint and wrote a profane message on the bottom of the Washington, DC monument, police mentioned.

Park Police are uncertain right now if the non permanent closure will have an effect on public visitation of the monument which might usually reopen at 10:00 am the next day.

After years of development and repairs, the Washington Monument reopens to the general public.

Repairs and cleansing of the paint can be dealt with by Nationwide Park Service conservators.

The long-lasting construction on the Nationwide Mall is known as for George Washington, the nation’s first president.

The obelisk was accomplished in 1888.
